Go with the Flo

Navigating monthly hormonal ups and downs can be a difficult task. One day you may be feeling happy, confident, and fun… but the next day you begin to feel moody, tired and irritable. It can be a vicious cycle, and unfortunately, it’s one that women have to deal with for most of their lives!

It is reported that nearly 85% of women experience some form of PMS. Premenstrual Syndrome is natural and normal, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing you can do to combat the symptoms that come with this monthly downer. There are many holistic options to remedy the situation.

Essential oils can be a good friend during this roller coaster ride. Many oils will virtually sit next to you on that ride, hold your hand, and tell you it’s going to be ok. There is a wonderful synergy and balance offered by essential oils that helps create a harmony in your body. In addition, essential oils are considered to be a complimentary therapy. This means that most of the time, it is safe to use them with other natural therapies and medicine.

Clary Sage

Clary Sage oil is honestly a woman’s best friend! This herbal oil can help stabilize so many types of hormones women possess. It is beneficial during PMS because it promotes steady estrogen levels. But it also has shown in studies to reduce Cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and improve thyroid function. It has an anti-depressant effect and it can help lessen the pain of cramping. Lastly, lavender can also be helpful for reducing the pain you may feel from cramps

Ylang Ylang

This floral oil is a scent from Heaven. Its sweet smell is known to bring a sense of comfort and boost self-esteem.  Ylang ylang also helps reduce blood pressure levels, calm anxiety, and induce feelings of relaxation. It is an anti-inflammatory, so when applied to the lower abdomen, it can lessen cramping to boot. This lovely oil should definitely be in a woman’s arsenal.

Tarragon

Tarragon essential oil is an emenagogue. This means that it has the ability to stimulate blood flow, which can be helpful for women who have suppressed menstruation. It generally helps to maintain the health of the female reproductive system. This herb is also known for calming the nervous system and encouraging sleep, which can be incredibly beneficial during insomnia caused from PMS. Tarragon may also aid in digestion too.
